It sounds simple.
Just walk. Don’t plan. Don’t check your GPS. Don’t ask “What’s here?” before arriving.
But for some of us — especially those who like to feel prepared — it’s a little terrifying.
Here are three soft ways I’ve learned to walk without knowing where I’m going — and still feel okay:
1. Choose a direction, not a goal.
Tell yourself: “I’ll walk toward the light.” Or the sound. Or the nearest tree. Give your feet something to follow that doesn’t require results.
2. Let the environment decide.
If a cat crosses your path, follow it for a block.
If a smell catches your attention, turn that way.
If it starts to rain — pause. Let the moment shape the map.
3. Carry something that grounds you.
A scarf. A photo. A small stone.
Something that reminds you you’re allowed to be unsure.
You don’t have to be brave.
Just open.
And if all else fails, look for a bench.
Sit. Let the road find you.
